Sammy Burtis Eulogy
We bought Sammy as a puppy at the pet rescue in Brighton in September 1997. Stacey and I had been married that May and purchased our first house in August. Every house needs a dog to be a home. Sammy was our first child and we decided that if Sammy was raised to be a good dog we would try to raise children. Sammy turned out to be a great dog!!! She could sit, lay, stay, come, heel, fetch and high-five or shake with either paw,. Sammy liked to chew as a puppy but eventually out grew the bad habit. She was supposed to be only 50-60 pounds but grew to be a 100 pound female and would sometime accidently knock people over with affection. She loved to camp with us and go on walks and hikes. Her favorite activity was swimming and she used to follow us in our canoe swimming across many lakes. As she got older she would ride in the canoe.
She was not sure what to think of our first child Noah but soon they became great friends. She would let him nap on her and whenever he was too rough she would just walk away. She was also great friends with our second child Lily. Sammy was always friendly and received many complements from friends and strangers for how loving, well behaved and beautiful she was. Sammy was our best and most loyal friend and would have stayed with us forever if she could. Her body wore-out after 13 years and 8 months and we had to send her to heaven for her sake.
Sammy taught us how to be more patient, understanding and loving and to be the great parents we are today. Sammy was the best best dog a family could have and she will be greatly missed. We owe you so much Sam and thank you. You were a true blessing. Enjoy heaven Sammy!!!! Rest in Peace!!!
